Reiki
Now that you’re thinking about trying out a Reiki session, you’re probably wondering what Reiki is and how it works.
Reiki is a form of alternative medicine called energy healing. Originating in Japan in the early 20th century. It involves a practitioner placing their hands lightly on or just above a person’s body to facilitate the flow of energy.
The Name: The word comes from “Rei” (universal) and “Ki” (life energy).
The Goal: It aims to promote relaxation, reduce stress, and support the body’s natural healing abilities.
The Practice: Recipients remain fully clothed while relaxing on a massage table during a session.
The Practitioner: To become a Reiki Practitioner, one must first attend Reiki Training and be attuned by a Reiki Master.
While many people find it deeply relaxing, scientific studies generally classify it as a complementary therapy rather than a standalone medical treatment, as its clinical efficacy is not supported by robust scientific evidence.
What We Connect With
Reiki sessions are done in one of our serene treatment rooms, while lying comfortably on a massage table, fully clothed, with blankets and pillows.
- Initial Discussion: The practitioner begins by asking about your health history, current areas of tension, and your goals for the session.
- The Environment: The room usually features soft lighting, calming background music, and sometimes aromatherapy to encourage deep relaxation.
- Hand Placements: The practitioner moves their hands through a series of 12 to 15 standard positions on or just above your head, torso, back, and limbs. They hold each position for 2 to 5 minutes.
- Light Touch: The touch is gentle, light, and entirely non-invasive, avoiding any sensitive or private body parts.
- Common Sensations: You may feel a deep sense of relaxation, warmth, tingling, or cooling spreading from the practitioner’s hands, or you might simply fall asleep.
- Post-Session Wrap Up: The session concludes with a brief conversation to discuss your experience, and the practitioner will usually recommend drinking plenty of water.
- How to Prepare: Dress comfortably and allow extra time so you are not rushing.
